I’ve started being more conscious about single-use products in my life and the packaging products come in. I know I’ll never be completely zero waste, but I want to do the things I can. Because of this, I’ve been looking up products that I can easily make myself which creates less waste, saves money, and makes me feel better because I know exactly what’s in it.
The first product on my list to make was deodorant. When looking up recipes, I realized the natural deodorant I was using already had the basic ingredients I would use to make it myself so that made it an easy switch! I was using Schmidt’s deodorant and if you’re not wanting to make your own but want a natural one without harmful ingredients, I would recommend it.
I found two videos that were most helpful when researching how to make deodorant:
Now onto actually making deodorant. There are many variations of deodorant recipes with basically all of the same ingredients so you can change it around to whatever makes sense for you, but here’s how I made mine.
Ingredients:
Other ingredients that are in some recipes that I didn’t include:
Step 1: Mix the arrowroot powder and baking soda together
Step 2: Add the coconut oil (I microwaved mine for about 10 seconds so it wasn’t hard)
Step 3: Mix it all together. After doing this, I put it in the fridge for a few minutes for it to get a little harder before putting it in the container.
Step 4: Put it in any container. I reused the container from my Schmidt’s deodorant which is great because it’s the same easy application, but others just use a glass jar or even the inside of a toilet paper/paper towel roll.
AND THAT’S IT!
Note: Some might be hesitant to do this because they don’t feel like the deodorant would actually do the job. Mine has worked great, but I also don’t sweat that much.🙃You can also experiment with different forms of the recipe to see what’s best for you!
