Complete Travel Guide to Paris Arrondissements

January 7, 2017

ar·ron·disse·ment (noun); an administrative district of certain large French cities, in particular Paris

Here are Paris-themed songs for you to listen to while reading this post. You’re welcome 🙂

1st Arrondissement

Musée du Louvre

The most well-known museum in Paris and home of the Mona Lisa. Don’t try to do everything in one day, you will be overwhelmed. Having a tour guide is also a good option.

Palais-Royal

This courtyard used to be filled with shops. Police were banned from entering because the royals had parties there. Now a pretty area with a park.

Tuileries Gardens

Musée de l’Orangerie

Impressionist and post-impressionist paintings, most known for eight Water Lilies murals by Claude Monet.

Rue de Rivoli

One of the most famous streets of Paris that runs through the 1st and 4th arrondissements.

Pont Neuf

The oldest bridge in Paris. You’ll find many people sitting along the seine in this quaint area surrounded by the Seine.

2nd Arrondissement

Palais Brongniart

Former headquarters of the Paris stock exchange

Théâtre-Musée des Capucines

Rue Montorgueil

Perfume Museum

3rd Arrondissement

Le Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature

The most unique nature museum I have ever been to. If you don’t like animals, don’t go 😂

Les Enfants Rouges

The oldest covered market in Paris

Musée Picasso

Musée d’Art et d’Histoire du Judaïsme

Les Archives Nationales

Claude Colliot

Very nice restaurant with very helpful and fun waiters and the place of my first escargot experience (it was great until my cousin started doing snail motions while I was eating one).

4th Arrondissement

Notre-Dame de Paris

The most well-known church in Paris. It is free, but be ready for a long line to get in. On the side of the church is also an entrance to go to the top and have a beautiful view of the city.

Hôtel de Ville

img_8336

La Sainte-Chapelle

A royal gothic style chapel commissioned by King Louis IX of France. The stain-glass windows covering the chapel are it’s statement. My first memory of this chapel was when I was four and fell asleep during a concert…

Saint-Louis-en-l’Île Church

Place des Vosges

Built during the reign of Henri IV, it is the oldest planned square in Paris. Each apartment was bought by aristocrats and built with the guidelines of the architect hired by the king. Because of this, each apartment has variation. Notable resident is Victor Hugo, wrote Les Misérables while living here.

Hôtel de Sens

Built between 1475 and 1507, it is one of three medieval private residences in Paris and is now the Forney art library.

Centre Georges Pompidou

A museum that has the Musée National d’Art Moderne, the largest museum of modern art in Europe.

Le Georges at Centre Georges Pompidou

I had my last meal in Paris here. It is an amazing restaurant with incredible food and interior design. If it is nice enough to sit outside, do so and you can see every major monument in Paris.

5th Arrondissement

IMG_8034.jpg

Come here to walk around the park or relax in the many chairs provided around Medici Fountain on a nice day, watch children play with model sailboats. One of my favorite memories from my childhood is playing on the playground here.

Just another great place to shop in Paris!

Café de Flore

IMG_8155.jpg

A pizza and pasta restaurant in my favorite alley.

CHOCOLATE (Maison Georges Larnicol, Pierre Herme, Patrick Rogers)

Hidden Secret:

IMG_3818.jpg

If you’re at Maison Georges Larnicol, go into the cute alleyway (also the back of Le Procope and Margherita). While walking down the alley, near the corner of Margherita, look down at the ground. There is a spot there that used to be a guillotine where they practiced with lambs. That is the reason the road is so slanted next to it for the blood to flow directly into the sewer.

7th Arrondissement

Le Tour Eiffel

The most recognizable monument in the world. It is a great experience to go to the top, but  the only problem is if you’re at the eiffel tower you can’t see the eiffel tower… I personally prefer being at the top of the Arc de Triomphe because the eiffel tower is in the view of the city.

Musée d’Orsay

One of my favorite museums mainly because of the layout (the building was originally a train station).

Musée Rodin

Musee de l’Armée

Where Napoleon’s tomb is along with many other french military artifacts.

l’Assemblée Nationale

Gregory Renard – Cacao et Macarons

IMG_2896.jpg

Café Constant

The cutest little café.

Carmine Café

I accidentally got risotto here and it was the best mistake I’ve ever made.

8th Arrondissement

Arc de Triomphe de l’Étoile

This is one of the most famous monuments in Paris. Many want to climb to the top of the Eiffel Tower, but as I said before, climb to the top of the Arc de Triomphe and you have an even more amazing view of Paris and the Eiffel Tower.

Champs Élysées

The main shopping street of Paris.

Place de la Concorde

On the other end of Champs Élysées. It was the site of many executions during the French Revolution (when it was named Place de la Révolution), including Marie Antoinette and Louis XVI.

Grand Palais

This building is the site of many events and expositions, including countless Fashion Shows. I was able to see celebrities and models who attended the Chanel show during PFW.

Petit Palais

Pont Alexandre III

Restaurant III

Where I had Valentine’s Day dinner. It is such a cute place with a great selection of food.

Le Comptoir General

A laid-back bar. You have to walk through an alley to get there, but don’t let it fool you. Once you get inside, it feels like you’re in a movie surrounded by the coolest people.

Lavomatic

img_6862

The outside of this building looks like a laundry-mat, but go inside, open one of the washing machines, go upstairs, and you are in a chic bar.

11th Arrondissement

Rue de Lappe

A street filled with bars that’s great for bar hopping.

Église Saint-Ambroise

17th Arrondissement

Parc Monceau

Marché Poncelet

Batignolles Cemetery

18th Arrondissement

Montmartre

If you want the real Parisian feeling, go to this quaint neighborhood and explore. I went on two different tours of the area and highly recommend it if you want to know the history behind certain aspects. This area has amazing stories.

Sacré-Cœur

My favorite place, outside because of the view and inside because of the hint of gold in the tiling. In my opinion, a completely underrated chapel especially compared to Notre-Dame. Climbing the stairs to the top seems like it takes forever, but the outcome is definitely worth it.

Moulin Rouge

Although I didn’t go to a traditional Moulin Rouge performance, I did get to see Skrillex and Iggy Azalea perform for 11 euros, so I’d say that’s a win!

Van Gogh’s home

IMG_9131.jpg

You can find the door to Van Gogh’s old home at 54 rue Lepic75018Although it’s just a door, it’s great to think about the history of what happened there.
